Dawn photoshoot

We finally rolled the egg in the woods and got some photos lol. It was quite a production since the best accessible location was an hour and a half from Atlanta.

We took advantage of a beautiful warm day in late October and set up the egg prop in between these awesome ivy vine overgrown trees in the North GA mountains. Realizing again how immobile I am in this costume *headdesk*, and how many bugs were flying around us O_o;, we did a fairly quick photoshoot in under an hour. I put on the horns at the last minute because I felt like my head was so bare. They were just stock from my store laying around.
I am very excited about the ivy on the trees as it matched the egg's decoration wonderfully. Got my skirt dirty tromping around in the dirt but it's well worth it.

A Novel of Sorts

  • Nov. 6th, 2009 at 5:06 PM
Well, this is the first time that I've logged into old Livejournal in something like a year. The reason for this is that I'm working on something that I feel that some of the Dragon*Con community might have an interest in.

I'm working on a novel.

Yes, that makes me about as unique as saying, "I have a facebook page."

The point is that I'm writing a novel about Dragon*Con. I've attended D*C for 10 years now and I've always enjoyed telling stories about the things that my friends and I have experience during our years at the convention, so I decided to write about it. I'm also one of those people with lofty dreams of transforming from a "writer" into a "published writer." So I've decided that I'll share the novel as each chapter becomes something that I'm comfortable with sharing. It's in no way a set in stone manuscript but more of a near-final draft.

At the time of this posting only the first chapter, more of a brief intro the setting, is available but the second will follow shortly. I plan to update the blog with a chapter or two every week, usually on the weekends.

What I would like is feedback from people that I don't know who have experienced Dragon*Con. I want to know what you think about it. So please leave a comment either positive or negative. Let me know what you like and what you didn't and what you would like to see.

So drop by and take a peek, at http://dragonconnovel.blogspot.com

Thanks and see you in 2010!

Transforming Eyeball

  • Nov. 7th, 2009 at 1:52 AM
Remember those eyeball charms I was telling you guys about?

They start off as a perfectly round eyeball but they actually have hidden arms and legs that fold out to turn them into the raddest eyeball you've ever laid eyes on! MUAHAHA! I think these are hilarious and I hope you guys love them as much as I do.

Florida Trip pics!

  • Nov. 6th, 2009 at 12:53 PM
Mary is over working on hats, and I am being "lazy" and just chatting. Hoho. But this entry is so overdue and since I failed on posting reports on ANY conventions this year!!!

So yes, epic Florida trip before Halloween was awesome. We had so much fun that we didn't stop to take very many photos, but we did get some.

Brian and I left on a Wednesday afternoon in the super packed Porsche for Orlando, FL. We arrived at [info]chibi_plum and Chris's house late that night and crashed after chatting for a couple of hours.

On Thursday morning we picked up [info]animechicky2040 and headed to WDW's Magic Kingdom! Christa showed us around the best spots in the park and we rode a bunch of rides and got Pineapple icy floats. At around 2:30pm Christa left to go a class, so Brian and I finished up at Miagic Kingdom and headed over to Epcot because the International Food and Wine Festival was going on! OMG soooo much yummy food and drinks. I was in heaven! We tried all sorts of different dishes and found some gems. Christa joined us around dinner time and we stayed for another couple of hours till we just about fell over from all the walking and eating lol. Onto a few photos!

Friday morning I rose early and did my hair and makeup for the bodypainting shoot. We met Nick Wolfe at his studio around 11am and got to work. The theme we chose was "Yazuka tattoo" and Nick free-handed an awesome Japanese Dragon surrounded by Sakura blossom. The painting took about 4 1/2 hours, and then Brian and Kevin Stewart took photos in the studio but soon decided to move to the outdoors for better lighting and background. We walked into a lake area surrounded by trees (and shielding my nekkidness from the road) and got a lot of great photos in the grass. The ones I'm posting are all by Brian.

After the photoshoot, Brian and I met up with [info]kichara, [info]yuffieleonheart and their respective boyfriends at the Blue Martini for a drink or 3. I was starved and ordered like three dishes, and we had a good ol' time together. The food dishes come with a decorative flower and soon we all had flowers in our hair and eventually Amanda wore them all and became the elusive and elegant Flower-nocerous! We went home straight after the bar and crashed early.

On Saturday I got up early, again, to get ready for a photoshoot with Kevin Stewart. Half-way through curling my hair the device broke *dies*, so instead of having curly hair, I had to emergency style it into a sideway swept look. Still, it looked ok and we met Kevin in downtown Orlando and shot at a park for a few hours. I even had an outfit change. But until I get the photos back, just one preview close up.

After the shoot we got Thai with Chris, [info]chibi_plum and [info]animiko and went back to the house to get ready for our Tampa excursion. We were planning on going to the Taboo Halloween Party at the Castle, and everyone had to still get in costume. I love this group of friends because we were all super efficient and fast! Left Orlando around 9pm, got to Tampa at 11pm, checked into our room, and got dressed in costume in under an hour. We arrived at the club right before Midnight, where things were just starting! To save time, I did both Lina and Miko's makeup in the car on the road LOL.

Girls...

...and boys!

We had a fabulous time at the club and closed out the night by walking the streets of Downtown Tampa in little more than lingerie trying to find a cab to take us back to the hotel lol.

On Sunday morning we rolled out of bed around 11am and slowly but surely made our way back to Orlando. We had just enough time to freshen up and chill for a bit before heading out again. Back to the Blue Martini since everyone in this group missed on going the last time. Also, we were going to Universal for Halloween Horror Nights and I wanted to be nice and tipsy for that. I am a total pussy when it comes to Horror movies and Haunted Houses. >_<

Yes, nice and buzzed...

What we were doing in this photo, I have no clue of!

We weren't really allowed to take photos inside the park in the houses, and it was a mad rush night anyway, so no more piccies. But you can see some I left out in my Flickr account!
http://www.flickr.com/photos/angelicstar/sets/72157622623433261/

HHN was awesome as usual, but I personally just don't get that much out of it T_T. The lines are crazy. Still, it was nice to hang out with the group and even Rob and Wade joined us. We did four houses and the Bill & Ted Show that night.

We left with much sadness on Monday morning after an awesome breakfast at First Watch. Gosh I miss that place now. Thank you again so much to Chris and Lina for hosting us, and to all of the friends who came out and saw us! We'll do this again soon!

PS: Just uploading the photos and typing this entry took over 2 hours... hence why I don't post much anymore lol.

Available in misses and plus sizes. :D
Hey guys. I'm so sorry. But I just cut around 100 people from my friends' list. I feel really bad for doing it, but honestly, this has been overdue by years. I just never had the heart to cut anyone, but I have realized this year that I just do not have as much time as I used to for LJ, and sometimes the entries get so overwhelming after a con or a weekend out of town that I just stay away from this site entirely for a while. I don't get to post much myself, let alone leave comments on others' entries, and I don't like to skim through writings and postings.

So it's either reducing the amount of material or leave LJ and just hang out over on Twitter. And I love LJ too much to do that.

If I cut you, please do your best to not take it personally. It doesn't mean we're not friends anymore or I don't like you or whatever. Come on, we're all adults here. Either we don't have much in common on a daily basis, or you have stopped posting much, or we keep in touch through other means these days. I can explain myself all day long but I trust that you guys are mature enough to get me, 'kay?

And of course, please take this as an opportunity to remove me as well. It's all good!

Thanks so much. A valid entry with lots of pictures forthcoming.

Missed connections

  • Nov. 3rd, 2009 at 3:23 PM
Trying to get in contact with a girl named Gina from FL (approx 5'8", slender, sandy blond) who had a pink T-shirt that had the caption "hot pink and nasty".  She had asked my friend and I a question and I'm dying to find out if she ever got her answer.

Seeking the other Enchanted costumers...

  • Nov. 2nd, 2009 at 6:16 PM
Last year I went as Queen Narissa from the movie Enchanted...

there was another Narissa, and also a Prince Edward or two (plus the plethora of Giselles) that I happened to see in this community after the fact after trying to run into them at the con.

Are they listening? Anyone know where they are on LJ? I'd like to get in touch with them again...

Thanks!!!
Short version is that I built the puppets of George Perez and Peter David that were used at the main Masquerade this year (2009).

I can't find the pictures I took of Peter, George and the puppets which I would like for my records so did anyone else get photos of them?

Thanks-
Kath

Not gonna be busy Saturday, November 14th?

Want an excuse to walk around downtown Atlanta in your favorite costume for a good cause?? We're also arranging an impromptu-Thriller dance! So if you were involved in this year's Guiness attempt at D*Con, know the dance by heart and want an opportunity to do it once more, as well as lending your legs and feet for a good cause, join us!

Come join us and join [info]hazelrah1's team to Smash ALS again, this year!

SMASH ALS!!!

It'll be an awesome chance to bond with some familiar Dragon*Con faces, as well as knowing you're supporting a huge fight against a horrible disease. You're not obligated to donate, but if you feel the urge, donate to Mel, primarely, or open up your own page and donate to support your walk!

I'm sure many of you have seen Mel around Dragon*Con, and most recently as Abe Lincoln in the Night at the Museum group:

She's a big staple in the Dragon*con community, not just the LotR community.

Hope to see a bunch of you there!

Halloweenie is over for me! Here's a crappy pic of me dressed up as minnie (my default costume when i don't have time to finish anything else!!) I wanted to be Wednesday Addams but I couldn't finish the outfit so whatevah! It was fun. We've decided to go to Disneyland's Trick or Treat event next year on Halloween. YES!

I have a buttload more pictures to share when I'm not pooped. Hope you all had a nice Halloweenie! BYE!
